How to Make Jelly With a Jelly Strainer

Jelly strainers are a kitchen tool made to filter out the ingredients used in the making of jams and jellies. A lot of canning recipes requires the usage of a jelly strainer which makes this a vital tool for every kitchen.

Strainers consist of a mesh bag which is used to trap the chunks while enabling the liquid and small pieces to flow through into the bowl. The use of a jelly strainer will ensure that the jelly is smooth and even all around like it should be.

All basic strainers consist of two parts. The first of which is the stand which clips onto the bowl set in place to catch the droppings. The second part is this meshy bag which as explained previously is used to strain the fruit.

After straining the fruit through the mesh bag, the left over fruit can be tossed out or small pieces can be put into the jelly to add texture and flavor. Next pectin and sugar should be added to the mix and then it should all be cooked.

Making jelly from home is a fun and easy way to save money. Jelly strainers are not highly expensive and are easy to come across. I use the jelly strainer from LEM Products which only cost me 10 dollars. Since then I have been making my own jelly from home and have not needed to get any from the grocery. Their strainer is very sturdy and replacement bags can be bought if they get too dirty and used.
